Sofia Coppola brings Marie Antoinette back to Versailles

Kirsten Dunst and Jason Schwartzman walked back into Versailles together, 20 years after starring as Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI.
The pair reunited at the Versailles Orangerie for the launch of an exhibition marking the 20th anniversary of Sofia Coppola's 2006 film "Marie Antoinette," Variety reported. Coppola partnered with the Château de Versailles on the show. It is a homecoming with cake, wigs and an orchestra.
The launch party filled the Orangerie with family and friends. Francis Ford Coppola, Rashida Jones, Thomas Mars, Virginie Efira and Niels Schneider were among the guests. New Order provided the music.
The exhibition itself sits in the Petit Trianon. That is the small palace in the Versailles grounds once used by the French royal family. The display spreads over two floors.
Inside are props, costumes and behind-the-scenes materials from the film. The centrepieces are Milena Canonero's Oscar-winning costumes. They are shown on mannequins modelled on Dunst and Schwartzman.
The show, titled '« Marie-Antoinette » by Sofia Coppola', runs from September 22, 2026 to January 24, 2027 at the Petit Trianon, according to the Château de Versailles.
Coppola has also put together a new documentary. "Making Marie Antoinette" was edited from 80 hours of on-set footage shot by her late mother, Eleanor Coppola. Mubi will release it on Nov. 9.
For fans, this means two ways in. The Versailles run offers a close look at the costumes and objects from the shoot. The documentary then tells the story of how they were made.
