Starz adds eight recurring faces to Black rodeo drama

Starz has added eight actors to the recurring cast of its upcoming Black rodeo drama.
The eight-episode family drama comes from creator Kirk A. Moore, executive producer Mark Johnson and Counterpart Studios, as reported by Deadline. It is set in Southeast Texas and centres on three siblings bound by their mother's legacy.
The new names will recur. That means they appear in multiple episodes without joining the main credited line-up. An eight-episode order means the first season will run for eight instalments. The family circle just got bigger.
Patrick Cage joins as Tennessee, described as an ex-military man and engineer. Mpho Osei-Tutu plays TJ, who runs a local eight-liner casino. Keith Arthur Bolden takes the role of LeRoi Louis, the uncle of the central Clarke siblings.
Tracey Bonner plays Neo Leland, the owner of Neo's Soul Kitchen. The restaurant gives the show a neighbourhood base away from the arena. Cris Ruiz joins as Rafael Morales, the younger brother of a character named Francisco.
Christina DeRosa plays Natalia Morales, the wife of Francisco and chief operating officer, meaning the day-to-day second-in-command, at Morales Timber. Her title places her inside both the family and the timber business. Rafael and Natalia arrive as a linked pair on that side of the story.
Derek Delafonte plays Playboy Ray, a multi-event rider who competes across several rodeo disciplines and is positioned as a rival to Julius. Demián Castro completes the eight as Lieutenant Mescal. His rank brings a law-enforcement thread into the wider ensemble.
They join four actors previously announced in leading roles. DeWanda Wise stars as Anaya Clarke-Reagan. Shannon Wallace plays Sebastian Clarke, Tian Richards plays Rodney Clarke, and Curtiss Cook plays Elias Clarke, according to Deadline.
A family drama puts relationships at the centre, rather than a case or job of the week. Here the sibling story remains the spine, with uncles, neighbours, business owners and rivals built around it.
For viewers new to the project, this means the world outside the ring is now taking shape. A kitchen owner, a casino owner, a timber executive, a soldier-turned-engineer and a rival rider. A rodeo life is never only about eight seconds on a bull.
