SZA inducted into New Jersey Hall of Fame by Danny DeVito

SZA is now a member of the New Jersey Hall of Fame. The singer entered in the Performing Arts & Entertainment category at the Hall's 18th annual induction ceremony on Sept. 24. Actor Danny DeVito presented her induction, according to Billboard. It puts a New Jersey-raised singer on the state's honours list.
DeVito did double duty on the night. He hosted the ceremony at the Dream Live Performing Arts Center at American Dream in East Rutherford. The Hall had listed the 2026 ceremony for 7:00 pm on Sept. 24, as shown by the New Jersey Hall of Fame. SZA was among the Class of 2026 inductees honoured during the evening.
Her New Jersey roots are central to the honour. SZA was born in St. Louis and raised in Maplewood, New Jersey. She graduated from Columbia High School in the town. She arrived at the ceremony as a seven-time Grammy winner. The Grammys are the annual US music awards voted on by industry members.
DeVito's presence closed a circle. He was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame himself in 2010. Sixteen years later, he stood on stage to welcome SZA. For the audience in East Rutherford, it paired a long-established screen and stage figure with a singer from a later generation.
SZA confirmed the news herself on Sept. 25. She posted on Instagram that she had been inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame. In the same post she said meeting DeVito mattered more to her than the induction itself, according to Instagram.
What makes this stand out is the tone. There was no long statement about legacy. There was a fan moment, shared in public. A singer with seven Grammys used her induction post to talk about meeting someone she admires. For fans, this means the picture to look for is not the plaque. It is SZA and DeVito, together on the night.
