A screen version of Chloe Gong's These Violent Delights could still happen. There is just nothing to announce yet.

That was the update from Gong herself in an interview conducted in late August and published by Variety on Sept. 26. She said a project based on the books has been rumoured. She added that there is still potential for it to move forward.

These Violent Delights, published in 2020, is a retelling of Romeo & Juliet set in 1920s Shanghai. It follows two rival heirs in a city caught between gangs, colonial powers and a strange sickness. No network, streamer, cast or production date has been attached.

The interview covered a busy publishing slate. Eyes of Kings was released on Aug. 4. It is the final book in Gong's Flesh & False Gods saga, a trilogy, meaning three linked novels that tell one long story.

That trilogy takes its cue from Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra. Its tagline is "At the end of this war, there can only be one king." Simon & Schuster lists Eyes of Kings in the Flesh & False Gods series. Gong told Locus Magazine on Sept. 21 that the book had gone to print.

Next up is Deadlock. It is the sequel to 2025's Coldwire and is set for release on Nov. 17. Gong flagged the same August and November dates herself in a TikTok posted on July 28.

She is already writing beyond that. Gong told Variety she is working on the final book in The StrangeLoom trilogy. Nothing is signed for the screen. But the desk is full.

She also addressed an unannounced secret project. It is not a return to These Violent Delights or any of her earlier series. She described it as her first contemporary venture, teased as an Emily Henry love story meets the zombie apocalypse.

For fans, this means two things at once. The Shanghai saga waits in the wings for television. Meanwhile, two finales and a brand-new world are arriving in print.
