Josh Bohannon finished day three on 125 not out as Lancashire reached 267-5 against Durham at Old Trafford, still 226 runs behind.

It was a lone stand of defiance. Durham had piled up 493 in their first innings. Lancashire closed the day reported on 26 September 2026 with five wickets down and a long way to go to make Durham bat again BBC Sport.

Bohannon carried the reply. His century — a single innings of 100 runs or more — was his first of the season and his first since June 2025. He was still there at stumps. That mattered. Lancashire needed someone to stay put.

He found support from Matthew Hurst. Hurst made 57. Together, the pair added 161 for the fourth wicket. That partnership did the heavy lifting after Lancashire had slipped early in reply to such a large total.

Durham kept pressing through spin. Callum Parkinson took 3-63 from 37 overs. He bowled long, tight spells and claimed three of the five wickets to fall. No one else could shift Bohannon.

Lancashire also passed an important marker. They collected a first batting bonus point since May. In the County Championship, sides earn extra table points for scoring runs quickly enough in the first 110 overs of their first innings. Lancashire have missed those extras too often this year.

The wider picture is bleak for the hosts. Lancashire will finish 17th. It will be the first time in the club's history they have ended a season that low BBC Sport. The table cannot be escaped now. Only pride and a draw remain in this match.

What makes this stand out is the personal wait. Bohannon was once the leading run-scorer in Division One. He led a title charge, earned an England Lions captaincy, and set high standards. This season has been quieter by his levels.

For fans, this means a familiar sight at last. A Lancashire batter digging in. A scoreboard moving slowly forward. Durham still lead by a distance, but Bohannon has given the final day shape.
