Ina Garten Says No to a Film of Her Memoir: It's My Story

Ina Garten will not let Hollywood turn her memoir into a film.
The television cook says she has always said no to a screen version of Be Ready When The Luck Happens, her memoir published in 2024, Deadline reported on 27 September 2026. She has been approached about an adaptation. Her answer has stayed the same.
Garten explained her position in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, which published an article titled 'Why Ina Garten Won't Allow a Movie on Her Memoir', People reported on 26 September 2026. She said she has never wanted a biopic, a film that dramatises the life of a real person, made about her life. She told the magazine she had turned down offers to adapt the book.
Her concern is control of the story. A producer or director, she said, would change details to make the book work on film. She does not want people inventing moments for dramatic effect, with scenes shaped to suit a script rather than to reflect what happened.
"It's my story. I get to keep it," she said when explaining the decision. The line sums up her view on ownership. She wrote the memoir in her own words, and she wants it to remain in those words.
The book is her first memoir, according to her official site. That site describes Be Ready When The Luck Happens as an intimate, entertaining and inspiring account of her journey, Barefoot Contessa notes. The title dates to 2024. It sits apart from her long run of cookbooks.
Garten hosted Barefoot Contessa on Food Network from 2002 to 2021, a run of almost two decades built around calm, organised lessons in home cooking. Since 2022 she has hosted Be My Guest from her home in East Hampton, New York. The newer programme brings guests into her kitchen to cook and talk.
Her publishing list keeps growing. Her next cookbook is titled Simply Ina, and it is listed as her 14th cookbook. That work keeps her focus on books and television, not on a film set.
For fans, this means the memoir remains the record. No casting. No script. The story stays with its author, told to honour the life as she lived it.
