Jalen Brunson opens SNL season 52 with Katseye

New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson opened the 52nd season of Saturday Night Live on NBC on 26 September, with girl group Katseye as musical guest. It was Brunson's first turn as host of the late-night sketch show, according to Deadline.
The premiere aired at 11:30 p.m. ET / 8:30 p.m. PT, the show's regular Saturday late-night slot, as listed by The Hollywood Reporter. That timing puts the live broadcast on Saturday night across the United States. The series has held that slot for more than five decades.
Each episode follows the same basic shape. A guest host performs in comedy sketches alongside a regular cast. A separate musical guest performs during the broadcast. The host changes weekly. The cast carries over from week to week.
Brunson fits a familiar SNL pattern: an athlete stepping out of the game. He plays for New York and was the NBA Finals 2026 MVP. He is the first NBA player to host since LeBron James hosted Season 33, according to NBC Insider.
Two new faces joined too. Grace Reiter and Saidah Belo-Osagie were introduced as new cast members in the premiere. New additions matter on this show. A crew of around two hundred builds each episode around the people available to play the parts.
One early sketch leaned into school musical comedy. It was titled High School Musical: The New Generation. Brunson played an athletically gifted new student dropped into a singing, dancing school.
SNL billed the night online as "Jalen Brunson and KATSEYE Are Locked In for SNL's Season 52 Premiere." The title appeared on the show's official YouTube channel. It summed up the pairing in plain terms.
More shows are already lined up. Dakota Johnson, Shane Gillis and Inde Navarrette are named as upcoming Season 52 hosts. Turnstile, Rosalía and Gracie Abrams are named as upcoming musical guests.
For fans, this means a fast start and a clear calendar. A first-time host opens the season. Two cast members begin. Then three more host and music weeks follow.
