Rabbi Matondo is on trial with Hibernian as he looks for his next club.

The 26-year-old Wales international winger has joined Hibs at their training camp in La Manga to try to win a contract, according to BBC Sport. A winger is a wide attacker, valued for pace and crossing. A trial is simple. Train, impress, earn a deal.

Matondo was released by Norwegian side Brann in summer 2026. He is now a free agent, which means Hibs could sign him outside the usual transfer window if they like what they see.

Hibs supporters will know the name. Matondo previously played for Rangers against Hibernian in a 3-0 Rangers win at Easter Road in January 2024, as reported by Hibernian FC. He also featured for Rangers in the 2-2 draw between the sides in August 2022, when he was substituted in the 68th minute.

The same report also sheds light on Celtic’s summer pursuit of Gvidas Gineitis. The 22-year-old Lithuania midfielder plays for Torino in Italy’s Serie A. Celtic chased him in summer 2026, and Gineitis said joining Celtic from Torino would be an interesting and rewarding experience.

That move did not happen. Gineitis remained at Torino after a summer of speculation. His agent later said personal terms between Celtic and the player were never agreed, according to LRT.

Celtic’s interest is not new. The club have held a long-term interest in the midfielder, and their latest bid was deemed to be too low, according to LiveScore.

For fans, this means two familiar transfer stories in different places. Matondo is fighting for a fresh start in green and white. Gineitis stays in Turin, at least for now.

Hibs have not yet announced a decision on Matondo. The ball, as ever, is in his feet.
