Sennheiser Momentum 5 Tested: Great Sound, Stronger Noise Blocking and 57-Hour Battery

Sennheiser's Momentum 5 has passed its most detailed independent test to date. TechCrunch published a review on September 27, 2026 covering sound quality, noise cancellation, comfort and battery life, with a verdict of great sound, excellent battery life and few compromises. TechCrunch
The headphone is priced at $399.99 in the US. It draws on HD 600-series design and supports Bluetooth 5.4, aptX, Snapdragon Sound, Dolby Atmos, lossless high-res audio, and spatial audio with head-tracking, which keeps placed sounds steady as you move your head. Sennheiser The Guardian
That wireless list shapes sound over Bluetooth. Bluetooth 5.4 carries the signal, aptX and Snapdragon Sound agree a higher-data connection on supported phones, and Dolby Atmos handles mixes placed around the listener. Lossless high-res still depends on the music source, the full codec chain and radio conditions, but the same set of features appears on other current flagship headphones.
Noise cancellation is the largest hardware change. The Momentum 5 uses eight microphones for active noise cancellation, double the previous generation. Sennheiser claims the system is up to three times more effective than the previous generation at blocking voices and nearby chatter. Voice pickup on calls and transparency behavior will show how that array performs outside the lab, but the microphone count gives the adaptive system more spatial detail to use.
The TechCrunch verdict cited battery performance. The Momentum 5 is rated for up to 57 hours with noise cancellation on. A 10-minute charge provides up to seven hours of playback. A full charge takes about two hours. The cell is user-replaceable.
Software is handled through the Smart Control Plus companion app. It offers an 8-band equalizer for separate tone controls, adjustable noise-cancellation level with a dedicated anti-wind mode, and a Sound Personalization feature that builds a tailored profile from a listening test. Fixed presets interact with hearing differences and earcup seal, while adjustable tuning can compensate for fit, glasses, hair and commute noise.
The broader context here is consolidation rather than reinvention. The Guardian separately described the sound as fantastic in its July review, which aligns with the September verdict on audio quality. No single specification is novel on its own. Eight-microphone cancellation, 57-hour endurance, Snapdragon Sound, Dolby Atmos and in-app personalization already exist across the premium segment in various combinations.
In my view, the packaging is the important part. Long endurance plus a replaceable cell addresses the usual failure mode for premium wireless headphones, which is battery wear rather than driver failure. For IT buyers and long-haul users, 57 hours with noise cancellation on moves charging from a daily task to a weekly one, and seven hours from a 10-minute charge covers a full workday from a short top-up.
In practical terms, what changes is maintenance overhead. If the acoustic tuning holds across firmware updates and the cancellation gains carry over to crowded offices and voice-heavy rooms, the Momentum 5 fits as a low-friction daily headphone for professionals who live in calls, editors who need extended listening, and travelers who want fewer cables and chargers.
