Damn Yankees Revival Heads to Broadway in Spring 2027 With Neil Patrick Harris

Neil Patrick Harris will lead a Broadway revival of Damn Yankees in spring 2027.
Harris will play Mr. Applegate. Julianne Hough has been cast as Lola, and Austin Scott will play Joe Boyd, according to Deadline.
Baseball met Broadway for the announcement. The casting was unveiled at a press conference at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
The production will play the Marquis Theatre. Previews, meaning the first paid performances before the reviews count, begin March 24, 2027. Opening night is set for April 20.
Sergio Trujillo will direct and choreograph the revival. The production will feature a new book by Will Power and Doug Wright, with additional lyrics by Lynn Ahrens.
Damn Yankees began as a 1955 musical comedy by Richard Adler, Jerry Ross, George Abbott and Douglass Wallop. This version moves the story to the year 2000 and centers on Joe Boyd, a Baltimore Orioles fan.
What makes this stand out is the update. The creative team is keeping the baseball-fan bargain at the center of the show while shifting its era and its team loyalties. For fans, this means a familiar title with new writing and a new setting.
