Mahershala Ali's 'Your Mother' opens to $199k in six theatres

Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother opened to $199,000 (US dollars) in six theatres in New York and Los Angeles for the weekend ending 27 September 2026, according to studio estimates reported by Deadline. That works out at $33,100 per screen, the total divided by the number of screens. The figures are Sunday estimates until Monday's actuals.
The film is directed by Bassam Tariq and stars Mahershala Ali as Latif, a devoutly religious hitman. It is a Texas-set action drama, described by Deadline as running 1 hour 51 minutes. The cast also includes John Cho, Giancarlo Esposito and Abubakr Ali, and the film is listed as Action, Crime, Drama, Thriller by Box Office Mojo.
Amazon MGM distributed the film and launched it in a platform release, an opening in a small number of cinemas before expanding step by step. The release came through Orion Pictures, Amazon MGM's specialist label. Orion had scheduled the New York and Los Angeles opening for 25 September, according to Deadline.
That is a deliberate slow start. The rollout gets bigger fast. The plan is to expand to 15 locations next week, including Atlanta, Chicago, Washington, D.C. and Austin, then to 30 to 40 screens in the top 10 to 12 markets the following week. A moderate release on 500 to 800 locations is planned for 16 October.
Amazon MGM head of domestic theatrical distribution Kevin Wilson named American Fiction as the best comparison for the strategy. That film opened in limited release to $224,000 and then followed a slow rollout. Both films were released under the Orion Pictures banner.
The early audience skewed young. About 47% of the opening audience was aged 25 to 34. The film premiered at TIFF, according to Deadline, and it is featured on the Amazon MGM Studios website with Get Tickets and Watch Trailer options.
