No glue. No mortar. Just tiles that click into place.

VitrA Tiles has set out details of two systems for ceramic floors: V-Flex, which lays without adhesive, and V-Tone, which keeps colour even from factory to finished room, as reported by Dezeen. One changes how floors are fitted. The other changes how they look once they are down.

V-Flex is described by the company as a floating installation solution, meaning the tiles lock together to sit over the subfloor rather than being bonded to it. It uses Ceraloc locking technology from Swedish firm Välinge, with tongue-and-groove edges — a shaped ridge on one tile that fits into a channel on the next — so each piece slots into place. The company says the approach is designed to bring speed, ease and flexibility to ceramic floor applications.

The practical pitch is straightforward. The interlocking edges allow precise alignment and even grout lines, with reduced drying time because there is no adhesive to cure. VitrA Tiles also says the method provides good acoustic performance, which matters in rooms where footsteps and echo carry. It recommends V-Flex for busy, high-traffic interiors including retail shops, showrooms, offices, hotels, education facilities and other commercial spaces.

V-Tone addresses a different headache: shade variation. Ceramic tiles can shift slightly in tone between batches and during firing and laying, so a floor that should read as one colour can end up patchy. V-Tone applies digital tone management during the production process rather than leaving colour control to manual checks. The company says the system preserves colour consistency across different production and installation stages, so the intended design is realised in the space.

The company also lists V-Coat, a surface protection technology applied across its porcelain collections, according to VitrA Tiles.

For anyone who has lived through a renovation, the appeal is easy to picture. Less mess on installation day, less waiting before you can walk on the floor, and less risk that the soft grey you chose arrives looking like three different greys.
