Resident Evil holds second place with US$23.3 million second weekend

Resident Evil has passed US$103.4 million in North America after ten days in cinemas.
The film earned US$23.3 million in its second weekend to place second at the domestic box office. That weekend included US$6.9 million on its second Friday. The second weekend was down 61% from its debut. The ten-day domestic total reached US$103.4 million, according to the latest box office reporting. Deadline
The hold follows a record start. The film finalised its domestic opening weekend at US$60.1 million. Deadline That opening weekend, the first three days of ticket sales that often set early expectations, came in above pre-release tracking. Worldwide, the film opened to US$108.3 million. That global opening was the best ever for the Capcom franchise and a record for director Zach Cregger. Deadline
Heading into its debut, Resident Evil was tracking a US$40 million to US$50 million domestic opening weekend. Variety It then earned US$26.3 million domestically across 3,684 screens on its opening day. Following that opening day, it was expected to make around US$55 million for the weekend. Variety
Sony had scheduled the Columbia Pictures release for domestic release on 18 September 2026. Variety Before this entry, the Resident Evil film franchise had collectively grossed over US$1.2 billion. In the United Kingdom and Ireland, the new film debuted at No. 1 with £4.2 million (US$5.6 million).
Cregger directed the 2026 film and is credited as a writer alongside Shay Hatten. He is also credited as a producer with Victor Hadida, Robert Kulzer and Roy Lee. Cregger teased the film at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
What makes this stand out is the distance travelled. A US$40 million to US$50 million projection became a US$60.1 million domestic opening. Then came a US$108.3 million global launch. For fans, this means the second weekend matters more than usual. A 61% fall is steep. A US$103.4 million ten-day total still leaves room.
