Diablo Cody is writing a new teen comedy titled Always, Roxanne.

The project was reported on 28 September 2026 by Deadline. It follows Roxanne, an obsessive high school senior — a final-year student in the American school system — who travels to her ex-boyfriend's college campus to win him back. No director is attached yet.

Mason Novick will produce alongside Nathan Kahane, who is backing the film through his True North banner, the industry term for his production company. Kahane launched True North after serving as President of the Motion Picture Group at Lionsgate, the studio division that oversees film production and release.

The team has history. Cody and Novick have worked together on more than 10 projects, according to Deadline. Novick earned an Oscar nomination for producing Cody's 2007 pregnancy comedy Juno. Cody won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for the same film.

Kahane knows both collaborators well. He worked with Cody and Novick on Juno and on Young Adult during his earlier stint at Mandate Pictures. That link reunites three people whose careers crossed on two of Cody's best-known early credits.

Cody and Novick are also currently working together on a sequel to Jennifer's Body, Cody's 2009 horror comedy. Details of that follow-up have not been disclosed in this announcement.

For viewers who know Cody from Juno, the set-up will feel like familiar ground. A sharp-talking teenager. A messy romance. A plan with flawed logic at its centre.
