Johnny Kastl is expected to act again after almost 20 years away.

Kastl is lined up to return as Dr Doug Murphy in Season 2 of the Scrubs revival, according to Deadline. The new season is slated to premiere on Sept. 30 and will run for 10 episodes.

Aseem Batra, the showrunner — the writer-producer in day-to-day charge of the series — told Deadline that Kastl is planned to appear in one of the last two episodes of the season. That appearance would be his first acting job in almost two decades.

Kastl quit acting in 2009 to go to law school. He most recently worked outside Hollywood as vice president of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships for Acorn Finance.

He is not the only familiar face coming back. Scott Foley will reprise his recurring role — meaning he appears in some episodes rather than as a full-time cast member — as Sean Kelly. Foley is expected to return in episode 203 for a short arc, a story told across a small run of episodes.

Neil Flynn is also returning as The Janitor for multiple episodes in Season 2. Flynn appeared in the Season 1 finale and will now have a larger presence in the new run.

For fans, this means the revival is leaning on its past. Doug was the nervous young doctor who rarely got anything right. Sean was Elliot’s on-and-off boyfriend. The Janitor tormented J.D. for years. Their returns fill out a 10-episode season built around old ties and new cases.
