Prime Video's Kelly Day urges TV to embrace AI at RTS London

Television should stop resisting artificial intelligence and start using it. That was the message from Kelly Day, vice president for international at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, speaking in London on 29 September.
Day addressed the Royal Television Society convention at Kings Place in London. The 2026 edition is a biennial gathering for British television, hosted by Amazon under the theme "united in change, if not now, when?", with Prime Video as principal sponsor, according to event announcements Royal Television Society.
Her argument centred on production. Day said AI is already being used to speed up work and lower costs across the pipeline, from pitching ideas to pre-production. Costs fall. Quality holds. That was her formulation, as reported by Variety.
She also pointed to changes for viewers. Prime Video uses AI for personalised recommendations, simplified synopses and spoiler-free summaries, as well as for audio descriptions and subtitles that make shows more accessible.
For fans, this means dubbing may soon look different. Day cited Maxton Hall, which she described as Prime Video's most-watched international original. The service introduced lip-sync technology on the show to synchronise actors' lip movements with human dubbed audio, meaning voices re-recorded in another language.
Day added a caution. Ethical guardrails for AI cannot be an afterthought, she said. They have to be the foundation.
Day was among the first speakers announced for the convention, alongside Priya Dogra, with ITV chief executive Carolyn McCall also named in the line-up Deadline.
