Ferrari back Vasseur as team boss after Horner interest

Ferrari have given public backing to team principal Frederic Vasseur after former Red Bull boss Christian Horner said he would be interested in joining the Italian team.

The message came from Maria Conti, Ferrari’s chief communication officer, speaking on behalf of chairman John Elkann and chief executive Benedetto Vigna. She said Ferrari has confidence in Vasseur and his team and that its position will not change, according to the BBC.

The team principal is the person in charge of a Formula 1 team, from race strategy to hiring. Vasseur has led Ferrari since the start of 2023, after Mattia Binotto was removed. He signed a new multi-year contract in July 2025.

Horner’s name entered the story last week. Vasseur said he was frustrated by speculation about his future amid links to Horner, Reuters reported on 27 September. Since leaving Red Bull, Horner has been linked most notably with Renault-owned Alpine.

The timing matters because Ferrari are in a fight to hold second place. After 15 of 23 races, they sit second in the constructors’ championship, the season-long points table for teams, 160 points behind leaders Mercedes. McLaren are third, 72 points behind Ferrari.

Lewis Hamilton has backed his boss. The seven-time world champion, now in Ferrari red alongside Charles Leclerc, said he remained confident the team were heading in the right direction under Vasseur.

For fans, this means the noise off track is not shifting the plan in Maranello. Ferrari have drawn a line. Vasseur stays, the hierarchy says so, and the rest of the season will be judged on points, not rumours.
