Cinema United has promoted two of its own into senior leadership, creating a new executive post in the process.

Amanda Martin becomes senior vice president of external affairs, a newly created role, while Erin Von Hoetzendorff becomes vice president of membership and global affairs, Variety reported on 29 September 2026. Both appointments begin immediately.

Martin has been chief of staff at the organisation for three years. She now steps into a senior vice president job that did not exist before, putting her on the group's top executive team.

Von Hoetzendorff has a longer history with the group. She joined Cinema United in 2018 and most recently served as head of membership services. Her new title adds global affairs to the membership brief.

The two executives were both named to Celluloid Junkie's 2025 Top Women in Global Cinema list last year, according to Cinema United. That annual list recognises women working across exhibition, distribution and related businesses.

Cinema United is the trade body that speaks for cinemas, from large chains to single-screen houses. It says it represents more than 60,000 movie screens globally, with Michael O'Leary as president and chief executive.

The group was founded in 1948 and describes itself as the largest exhibition trade organisation in the world, according to its website. Its membership covers theatres of all sizes, from the largest circuits to one-screen independents.

What makes this stand out is the continuity. Both promotions were made from within, and both appointees already know the members they will serve. For cinemagoers, nothing changes on the marquee. The business here is behind the scenes, in the team that represents cinema owners in policy and industry talks.
