Charles Spencer has confirmed that Prince Harry stayed at Althorp with his family in July.

Speaking in New York on September 29, Spencer said Prince Harry, his wife Meghan and their children stayed with him and his wife Kat this summer. He was talking to writer Tina Brown at an event to promote his new memoir, attended by HELLO!

The book is Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, about his sister Diana, Princess of Wales. The conversation revisited his memories of the period around her funeral in 1997.

Asked about his relationship with his nephews, Prince William and Prince Harry, Spencer said: "I'm just an elderly uncle who's there if needed." He added: "I never intrude."

He was also asked about Prince Harry's ties to Britain. Spencer said: "But is it astounding that an Englishman wants to move back to England? I don't think so."

Spencer also discussed his recollection of a heated disagreement with the now King Charles III before Diana's funeral. During the New York conversation he described King Charles as "a man with a temper".

That account forms part of a wider dispute about the book. Spencer has alleged he argued with the then Prince Charles over plans for Prince William and Prince Harry to walk behind their mother's coffin, according to AP News. In the book he also describes telephone conversations he says he had with Prince Charles after Diana's death.

Spencer has also claimed Charles was "giddily elated" in the aftermath of Diana's death in 1997. Buckingham Palace has denied claims made by Spencer about King Charles.

The New York event also touched on reports that Prince Harry could make a film tribute to Diana ahead of the 30th anniversary of her death. That remains unconfirmed. Spencer's book has separately been reported as seemingly confirming that Prince Harry is working on a documentary about Diana, according to Page Six.
