Paris Opens 174-Work Cezanne and Us Show at Grand Palais

A 174-work exhibition about Paul Cezanne has opened at the Grand Palais in Paris.
The show, titled 'Cezanne et nous' ('Cezanne and Us'), brings together 69 works by Cezanne and 105 works by 78 other artists who picked up his ideas, according to Artnet. It is built as a conversation. Cezanne first, then the artists who followed him.
The dates are set for a long run. The exhibition runs from September 23, 2026 to January 17, 2027, according to the Grand Palais. Booking is open, the venue said in a preview update.
Cezanne was a French painter who lived from 1839 to 1906. This show does not stop with his lifetime. It traces his impact from the 1880s to today, and is presented as an odyssey through his influence rather than a retrospective, a show that surveys one artist's own career, Artnet reported.
That structure shapes what visitors will see. Instead of moving step by step through Cezanne's own output, the hang places his paintings and drawings alongside later responses. The count tells the story: fewer than half the works are by Cezanne himself.
The curatorial team counts four people. One of them is Claire Bernardi, director of the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris, according to Artnet.
The Grand Palais in Paris describes 'Cezanne and Us' as an unprecedented exhibition dedicated to Cezanne and his artistic legacy, according to the venue's programme page.
What makes this stand out for a general visit is the scale. You do not need to know the art history to follow it. Start with Cezanne's still lifes, landscapes and bathers, then see how other painters, sculptors and later makers answered the same problems of colour, shape and space.
