Rory Kinnear and Natalia Osipova open James Graham's Keynes play in the West End

James Graham's The Standard of Living has officially opened in London's West End.
The world premiere, meaning the first staging anywhere, is at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. It runs until 12 December 2026, according to WhatsOnStage.
The play explores the life of economist John Maynard Keynes. It asks what a good life costs, and who gets to live one.
Rory Kinnear stars as Keynes. Natalia Osipova plays Lydia Lopokova, Keynes' spouse.
For Osipova, it is a West End debut. She is best known as a ballet dancer. Here she acts opposite Kinnear in Graham's new writing.
Nicholas Hytner directs. Hytner previously led the National Theatre and now runs the Bridge Theatre.
The wider company brings Bloomsbury and Westminster onto the same stage. Thomas Flynn plays painter Duncan Grant. Laurie Kynaston plays economist Friedrich Hayek.
Pip Carter plays writer Lytton Strachey. Naomi Frederick plays Virginia Woolf. Claire Price plays artist Vanessa Bell.
George Taylor plays William Beveridge, the architect of the welfare state. Agatha Enecio plays artist Dora Carrington.
Bob Crowley is set designer. Jenny Beavan is costume designer.
Early response has focused on the two leads. WhatsOnStage critic Sarah Crompton called Kinnear's performance as Keynes a "masterful performance". She praised Osipova for "instinctive comic timing and enormous charm".
What makes this stand out is the pairing at its centre. A celebrated stage actor and a dance star, new to straight theatre, telling a marriage story inside an economics story.
For audiences planning a visit, the run is billed as a strictly limited season. That means it has a fixed closing date with no extension announced.
Performances are Monday to Wednesday at 7pm and Thursday to Saturday at 7:30pm, with matinees on Thursday and Saturday at 2:30pm. The full season runs from 21 September to 12 December 2026, according to the Theatre Royal Haymarket.
Tickets start from £25, the theatre says.
