First look at Gillian Anderson and Billy Crudup in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Production photos have been released for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? starring Gillian Anderson and Billy Crudup in the West End.
The images show the four-strong company on stage at @sohoplace. They are credited to Johan Persson, according to WhatsOnStage.
Anderson plays Martha. Crudup plays George. Josh Dylan plays Nick and Phoebe Horn plays Honey. Together they are the whole cast for the night.
The play is by Edward Albee. This London staging is a revival. Marianne Elliott directs it in the round, meaning the audience sits on all sides of the acting space.
That shape matters. @sohoplace was built for it. The auditorium wraps around the stage, so no one is far from the actors. The production lists its West End arrival as September 2026.
Its press night is 30 September. A press night is the official opening that critics attend. The run continues until 19 December 2026.
The design team is led by Miriam Buether as designer. James Farncombe is lighting designer. Ian Dickinson is sound designer.
The company also includes four understudies. An understudy learns a role in case they are needed at short notice. Jessica Kirton covers Martha, Simon Willmont covers George, Alex Cartuson covers Nick and Georgia Miles covers Honey.
The casting was first announced in March. The Guardian reported on 18 March 2026 that Anderson would appear opposite Crudup in London in autumn 2026.
Since then the production has opened its own Instagram account under the name Virginia Woolf Play. Anderson and Crudup also joined Jo on the BBC to discuss the show. That interview was published on 17 September.
What makes this stand out is the closeness. Four people. One room. The audience all around them.
For fans, this means a first proper look at costume, light and space before reviews land. The photos give the clearest sense yet of how Elliott has placed the couples in the middle of the house.
