Jack Sinfield will play at Old Trafford for the first time on Saturday. His dad will run in with the ball.

Wakefield Trinity face Warrington Wolves in the Betfred Super League Grand Final, rugby league's championship decider, at Old Trafford in Manchester. Kick-off is at 6pm on Saturday 3 October, and Wakefield are chasing their first Super League title Super League The Guardian.

Jack is 22. He has never played at the famous ground. He has only ever watched there.

He watched a lot. His first rugby league game was the 2004 Grand Final, when he was three weeks old and his father Kevin was playing for Leeds Rhinos. He went on to attend all eight of his dad's Grand Final appearances from the stands.

Kevin's last game as a player was the 2015 Grand Final. Leeds won it to complete the treble of league, cup and Grand Final in one season. Jack was in the crowd that night too.

Their paths have diverged since. Jack came through the Leeds academy but left last winter without breaking into the first team. He rebuilt at Wakefield, and now gets his own shot on the biggest stage in the domestic game.

Kevin will meet him there in very different shoes. He is on his seventh and final fundraising challenge to support people living with motor neurone disease. This one is seven ultramarathons in seven days, finishing at Old Trafford on Grand Final day, when he will carry the match ball into the stadium.

The run passed through Wakefield on Wednesday morning. It set off from Wakefield Trinity's stadium, with supporters turning out to cheer him on the road.

What makes this stand out is the symmetry. For years Jack watched his dad win finals. Now his dad will watch him try to win one. The roles are reversed, but the place is the same.

For fans, this means a final with two stories in one. Wakefield against Warrington, for the trophy. And a father handing over the ball for a game his son will play.
