Julianne Moore to receive Rome Film Festival lifetime honour

Julianne Moore will receive a lifetime achievement honour at the Rome Film Festival, with Jesse Eisenberg presenting the award, Variety reported on 1 October.
The honour was announced by Salvatore Nastasi, president of Fondazione Cinema per Roma, the body that oversees the festival, according to the same report. The festival will run from 13 to 25 October. The 2026 event is the 21st edition, Rome Film Festival listings confirm.
Moore will attend the festival for the Italian premiere of “The Debut”. The film was directed by Eisenberg and written by Eisenberg, festival notes list, and runs 105 minutes. It is a United States production, Rome Film Festival press materials state.
In the story Moore plays Mona Friedman, a housewife cast in a small part at a community theatre. It is Eisenberg’s third feature as a director. It is also his second directing collaboration with Moore after “When You Finish Saving the World” from 2022, Variety reported.
“The Debut” started its public run at Telluride. It then launched internationally at the Zurich Film Festival. Moore also picked up Zurich’s Golden Icon Award in September.
Her awards record spans the major festivals and the Oscars. She won the Oscar for “Still Alice”. She was Oscar-nominated for “Far From Heaven”, “The Hours”, “The End of the Affair” and “Boogie Nights”.
She won best actress at Cannes for “Maps to the Stars”, at Venice for “Far From Heaven” and at Berlin for “The Hours”. That set of three festival acting prizes is rare. Rome now adds a career honour to that list.
What makes this pairing stand out is the timing. Eisenberg arrives in Rome as both presenter and film-maker. Moore arrives as both honouree and lead actor. The presentation and the premiere happen in the same place, in the same week.
