Arrested Memory Leads Golden Horse Awards With 11 Nominations

Sabu's Arrested Memory leads the 63rd Golden Horse Awards with 11 nominations, the most of any film, Variety reported on Oct. 1.
Close behind is Shu Qi's Girl with 10 nominations. Two more contenders sit just off the pace. Double Happiness and We Are Born Good each collected nine nominations.
Those four films all make the shortlist for best narrative feature, the top prize for a fictional film. They are joined by We Are All Strangers. Five films in all will contest the category.
The directing race mirrors that contest. Sabu is nominated for best director alongside Joseph Hsu Chen-chieh, Anthony Chen, Herman Yau and Edmund Yeo, according to the same nominations list.
Shu Qi pulls double duty. She is nominated for best new director, for a first or early feature, alongside Yeung Leung-chuen, Priscilla Ang Geck-geck, Shieh Meng-ju and Michelle Zhou. Her film Girl is also up for the top prize.
In acting, the best leading actor nominees are Ethan Juan, Leon Dai, Liu Kuan-ting, Yeung Wai-lun and Jack Tan. The best leading actress nominees are Yeo Yann-yann, Angela Yuen, Jennifer Yu, Liang Cuishan and Chung Suet-ying, Variety reported.
The field was chosen from 587 entries. That total included 92 narrative features, 60 feature documentaries and three animated features.
Two honorary prizes are already decided. Colour specialist Moya Chou was named Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year. Director Yu Kan-ping will receive the lifetime achievement honour.
Winners will be revealed on Nov. 22 at the Taipei Music Center. Every nominated film will screen during the Golden Horse Film Festival, which opens on Nov. 6.
