All eight episodes of Amazon's Carrie will be released on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. The plan to release all episodes at once, known as a binge drop, was confirmed by Amazon MGM Studios ahead of launch. Amazon MGM Studios

The series is based on Stephen King's debut novel and is described by Amazon as the first-ever series adaptation of Carrie. About Amazon It was created for Prime Video by Mike Flanagan, and it is the first project to emerge from his exclusive television partnership with Amazon.

That partnership has a long lead time. Amazon signed Flanagan to an exclusive TV deal in 2022. The Carrie adaptation was first reported to be in development in October 2024, and Amazon officially ordered it to series in April 2025. Variety

The series consists of eight episodes. Summer H. Howell plays Carietta White (Carrie), with Samantha Sloyan playing Margaret. The Verge

The setup keeps the core of King's story. Carrie White is a misfit high-schooler who has spent her life largely hidden inside her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret. The change is in how humiliation is distributed.

In this version, Carrie's gym-class humiliation is filmed by classmates and fuels an anonymous Instagram bullying account with the handle "carriered." Margaret is depicted as a religious zealot and conspiracy theorist who becomes a parents' rights activist. The cruelty shifts from a locker-room incident that would fade from memory to persistent online harassment, with searchable copies and an audience far beyond the school.

The broader context here is how little the underlying power dynamic had to be rewritten to fit current infrastructure. A cameraphone and a social account do the same narrative work that the shower room and the schoolyard once did, only with copying, permanence, and algorithmic amplification built in.

In my view, that is why the adaptation reads as a systems update rather than a period transplant. The telekinesis was always a metaphor for powerlessness inverted. Now the powerlessness has metadata.

Flanagan has directed King material before. He directed the King adaptations Doctor Sleep and The Life of Chuck, and between 2018 and 2023 he released Netflix horror series including The Haunting of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass.

Amazon is handling Carrie as a global tentpole for Prime Video. The company published an official trailer for the series in September. YouTube It also scheduled a premiere celebration event for the series in New York City on September 28, 2026.

Early critical framing centers on that modernization. The Verge's review states the series transforms the story into an exploration of how nightmarish high school has become with cyberbullying.

Looking at what this means for viewers who build and operate the platforms being dramatized, the interest is less in the scares than in the accuracy of the depiction. Persistent identifiers, anonymous accounts, phone-first video, and the speed at which a private moment becomes public are familiar operational problems. I have watched my own children move through successive versions of that environment, from text threads to short video, and each shift lowered the cost of capturing someone at their worst while raising the cost of containment. If it succeeds, it will be because it treats the network as setting, not prop, and still leaves room for what technology has consistently enabled alongside its harms, which is a way out, a wider community, and a record that can also exonerate.
