AGC Studios is starting AGC Digital, a new division built around online creators. The unit will partner with digital talent to turn their ideas, content and audiences into entertainment franchises, Deadline reported on 1 October.

Jared Jacobs will run the division. He takes the title of SVP, AGC Digital, and will report to Joel Zimmer, president of AGC, Deadline reported.

His brief covers the full chain. Jacobs will be responsible for finding, developing, financing and commercialising intellectual property from the digital ecosystem. That means characters, stories and formats that can live across film, television and other platforms.

Jacobs knows both sides of that market. He most recently worked with Warner Bros. Unscripted Television on digital strategy, development, creator partnerships and new intellectual property. Before that he served as vice-president of development at Night Studios.

His earlier posts span production, management and representation. They include roles at Blumhouse Television, Unrealistic Ideas, Endeavor Content, now called Fifth Season, and WME.

For viewers, this means familiar names from phones and laptops could soon appear in a different form. Studios increasingly look to creators who already bring large, loyal audiences, then build longer shows or films around them.
