Rome's MIA Market sets 12th edition with Berger, Kapadia and top executives

Rome's MIA Market will hold its 12th edition on Oct. 19-23 with a new setup spread across several hotels on Via Veneto. MIA stands for Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo, or International Audiovisual Market, a buying and selling market dedicated to TV series, animation, feature films and documentaries, according to Variety.
The dates mean an overlap with the Rome Film Festival, scheduled for Oct. 13-25. In recent years the two events were held on separate dates. MIA chief Gaia Tridente is leading this year's edition.
Buyers at MIA will automatically get accreditation, meaning an official pass, to attend morning press and industry screenings at the Rome Film Festival and its Alice in the City sidebar. A sidebar is a smaller strand that runs alongside the main festival. Alice in the City is dedicated to films for children and youth.
The business guest list centres on fireside chats, meaning informal onstage interviews, with three senior executives. They are Banijay Entertainment CEO Marco Bassetti, Studiocanal CEO and Canal+ chief content officer Anna Marsh, and Bad Wolf CEO Jane Tranter.
Director Edward Berger, best known for All Quiet on the Western Front, will also take part in the fireside programme. Further onstage conversations and keynotes will feature Oscar-winning documentary director Asif Kapadia, known for Amy, and Kim Longinotto, known for documentaries including 2019's Shooting the Mafia about Sicilian photographer Letizia Battaglia.
Trevor Roth, chief operating officer and president of development at Roddenberry Entertainment, will also appear onstage. The company is marking 60 years of the Star Trek franchise.
The market will showcase more than 100 projects in various stages from 43 countries, according to Variety.
What makes this stand out is the mix. Deal-makers, channel bosses and directors share one programme. For viewers, that is where future series and films find partners, slots and release plans.
