Ed Helms wraps lead role in sports comedy The Streak

Ed Helms has wrapped his starring role in The Streak, a sports comedy from writer-director Steve Byrne, Deadline reported exclusively on 1 October 2026.
Wrap means principal filming has finished. The film follows Coach Oliver Eslinger and the 2011 Caltech men's basketball team as they try to end the longest losing run in NCAA history, the NCAA being the body that runs college sport in the United States.
Helms plays the coach, a first-time head coach who takes charge of the Caltech men's programme. It is a classic underdog set-up. The humour comes from a team known more for losing than winning.
The ensemble around Helms includes Nina Dobrev, Natasha Rothwell, Tone Bell, Peter Billingsley and Joe DeRosa. Byrne wrote and directed the film.
Filming took place in St. Louis and surrounding areas. Lion Forge Entertainment financed the film alongside Same Page Entertainment, Deadline reported.
For fans, this means a familiar sports story told as a comedy. A winless run becomes the starting point, not the final score.
The project is Lion Forge Entertainment's entry into live-action features. The company, best known for animation, describes itself as a Black-owned studio focused on diverse stories, authentically told, according to Lion Forge Entertainment. It is also an Academy Award-winning studio.
