Christopher French says he is staying out of his wife Ashley Tisdale's friendship fallout and backing her right to handle it her way.

French, Tisdale's husband since 2014, made the remarks in an on-camera interview with Page Six published on Sept. 30. It is his first extended public comment on a dispute that has followed Tisdale since early this year. Page Six

The couple share two daughters, Jupiter and Emerson. French said the pair are "doing fine" almost a year on from the height of the drama.

The row dates back to an essay Tisdale published in The Cut about breaking up with a circle of mum friends she described as toxic. The group was reported to include Hilary Duff, Meghan Trainor and Mandy Moore. Billboard

In the interview, French said he supports his wife completely and supports her ability to deal with her own interpersonal relationships in whatever way feels right for her. He added that he does not get involved and does not feel he has to speak for her.

What makes this stand out is the tone. French did not revisit who said what, or take a position on the other mothers. He kept his answer short and personal.

Tisdale has since partnered with Netflix to turn the experience into a scripted series titled Toxic Moms. It is described as a dark half-hour comedy following a sleep-deprived new mum who is drawn into a clique of cool, wealthy mothers who reveal a darker side. Billboard

The project is still in development, with no air date announced by the streamer. For viewers, this means the off-screen essay and the on-screen comedy will now run side by side.
