Bradley Cooper to Play Duke in Paramount's New G.I. Joe Film Directed by Danny McBride

Bradley Cooper will play Duke in Paramount Pictures' new G.I. Joe film, with Danny McBride directing, Deadline reported on 1 October 2026.
Duke leads the military unit at the heart of the story. The part puts Cooper at the front of a fresh screen version of the long-running Hasbro toy line, described as a reimagining of the franchise, according to the same report.
McBride is also co-writing the screenplay with Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri, Deadline reported. The film is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian alongside Zev Foreman for Hasbro Entertainment. The title is still under wraps.
The project stands on its own. It is uncoupled from a previously discussed Transformers crossover film that is no longer in development, according to that report. The new feature is currently untitled, The Hollywood Reporter reported on 1 October 2026.
Duke has been seen on screen before. Channing Tatum played the character in Paramount's G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra in 2009 and G.I. Joe: Retaliation in 2013, according to that report. Those films followed the same military organisation drawn from the toys.
Cooper and McBride have worked together recently. Cooper appeared in an episode of McBride's HBO series The Righteous Gemstones, which McBride created, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Fradley and Carcieri were also writers on that series.
For fans, this means a familiar name in charge of a familiar team. A reimagining, in plain terms, means the story starts again rather than continuing the earlier films. No release date has been announced.
