San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama says he will never endorse a sports betting company.

He called it sad to see some NBA players promote sports betting. The comments came after Thursday's training camp workout, when reporters asked if he would ever partner with a sportsbook, including FanDuel specifically. The Guardian

Wembanyama said money is no longer the deciding factor. He now prioritizes whether a sponsorship fits his personal values. He added that he has already turned down endorsement offers worth considerably more than deals he accepted.

That puts him apart from several of the league's biggest names. LeBron James announced a partnership with Polymarket in September after previously working with DraftKings. Kevin Durant has an endorsement deal with FanDuel and is an investor in Kalshi. Giannis Antetokounmpo became a Kalshi shareholder earlier in 2026, and Nikola Jokic has served as an ambassador for Superbet in Serbia since 2023.

Under the NBA's collective bargaining agreement — the labor deal that sets league rules on pay and player conduct — players are allowed to endorse betting companies but cannot promote wagering on NBA-related markets.

Wembanyama has drawn a hard line on sponsors before. He said in June that he would never endorse soda because he does not want to harm children. The Athletic

His stance lands during a tense stretch between players and gamblers. Five major U.S. professional sports leagues and their players' associations called on state regulators in September to permanently bar bettors who threaten athletes. Reuters

On the court, Wembanyama is coming off a dominant season. He was unanimously voted NBA Defensive Player of the Year. He led the league in blocked shots for a third straight year and finished third in MVP voting.

What makes this stand out is how direct he was. No hedging. No shot at a teammate. Just a 22-year-old cornerstone saying some checks are not worth cashing, even as betting logos keep moving closer to the game.
