The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles will put permanent fences around its plaza, just days after opening to the public. The plan was reported on October 2 by ARTnews.

The museum stands in Exposition Park in Los Angeles. It opened on September 22, 2026, according to a museum announcement published on the opening day itself. An earlier museum notice from November 2025 had already named September 22, 2026 as the opening date and confirmed the Exposition Park location.

The new barriers are curvy structures made of stainless steel. That description comes from the Los Angeles Times, which reported the fence plan on October 1. A plaza, in plain terms, is the paved open ground around a building where people gather, queue and rest. Permanent means fixed in place, not temporary crowd barriers wheeled out for opening week.

Anyone planning a visit will need a ticket for the galleries. The museum lists adult admission at US$25, according to its visit page. Visitors aged 65 and over pay US$21. Prices are shown in US dollars and the senior rate applies from age 65.

For fans, this means check the outdoor rules before you go. An open plaza lets people walk through, sit and meet without a ticket. A fenced plaza narrows where you can enter and where you can linger. If the courtyard was part of your plan, familiarise yourself with the current access points first.

What makes this stand out is the design. Curved stainless steel is not rope and posts. It is shaped metal, made to stay with the building. Steel lasts outdoors. Curves take more work to form than straight bars. The choice reads as part of the architecture, not a stopgap.

The timing is tight. Ten days separate the September 22 opening and the October 2 fence report. New public buildings often tweak access in the first weeks as staff learn how crowds move, where queues build and which doors get blocked. Visitors will notice the change at the gate before anywhere else.
