India beat Pakistan by 19 runs to win Asian Games gold

India beat Pakistan by 19 runs to win men's cricket gold at the Asian Games in Nagoya on 3 October. India made 211 for six from their 20 overs at Korogi Park Athletic Stadium, then held Pakistan to 192 for six. The Guardian
The final was played as a Twenty20, with each team batting once for a maximum of 20 overs. India chose to bat first. That gave them the chance to set the target.
Abhishek Sharma gave India a fast start with 61. He reached his fifty off 20 balls. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi added 15, Ishan Kishan made 20 and captain Shreyas Iyer scored 21.
Then India wobbled. They slipped to 133 for five in the 15th over, with half the batting side out. Tilak Varma held firm with 51 not out, meaning he was still batting at the end, and Shivam Dube hit 27. The pair added 62 in five overs for the sixth wicket to push India past 200.
Pakistan lost early ground in reply. Sahibzada Farhan fell for 10 and Maaz Sadaqat made 23. Then Hasan Nawaz took charge with a clean, powerful innings.
He scored 96 off 51 balls, with seven sixes and five fours. A six clears the boundary without bouncing, a four reaches it along the ground. He reached his fifty off 28 balls and kept Pakistan in the chase deep into the later overs.
The target kept climbing. Pakistan needed boundaries from almost every over. They finished 19 runs short with six wickets lost.
There was an edge before a ball was bowled. The captains refused the normal pre-match handshakes. Once play started, the cricket did the talking.
Sri Lanka took bronze with a 63-run win over Bangladesh in the men's third-place playoff. India's women had already won gold on 22 September, beating Sri Lanka by 147 runs.
What makes this stand out is how both teams handled pressure. Chasing 212 leaves little room for quiet overs. One big innings is rarely enough. India shared the late hitting and then defended with enough calm to close out a famous rivalry final.
