Europe's age-rating board briefly published an 18 rating for Grand Theft Auto 6 and then pulled it from its website.

The listing appeared on the site of PEGI, Pan European Game Information, the organisation that sets age labels for games sold across much of Europe. It was removed soon after it went live, as reported by Video Games Chronicle on 3 October 2026.

The removed text described bloody violence with a high degree of realism. It said certain weapons can cause detailed decapitation and dismemberment. The dismemberment detail was tied in the text to the use of those specific weapons.

Drugs received an equally detailed description. Use was called frequent and prominent, with the player able to join in with others and take illegal drugs directly from inventory. Cocaine can be carried by the player and snorted directly from the hand at any time, the page said. The text framed drug taking as something the player chooses to do, alone or with other characters in the game.

Sex was listed in plain terms. The page cited nudity, scenes of intercourse and occasional scenes of sexual fetishes. It also said players can pay for private dances in nightclubs. During those dances, players can move their hands onto dancers' breasts and buttocks.

Animals were mentioned too. Domestic animals are present and can be harmed by the player, but without the same injury detail shown for human characters.

What makes this stand out is the specificity. Ratings notes are usually brief. This one set out acts, substances and body detail in full sentences.

An 18 rating is PEGI's highest age band. It signals the game is considered suitable only for adults, and many retailers use it to enforce age checks in store and online.

The PEGI listing followed an M for Mature rating from the ESRB, the body that rates games in North America, granted days earlier. In Australia, both GTA 6 and GTA 5 carry the adult R18+ rating. The warning words differ slightly, with GTA 6 listing "sex scenes" where GTA 5 lists "sexual material", as noted by Polygon.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is due for release on 19 November 2026, the date given by the Rockstar Store. Rockstar Games has also announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album for 19 November, according to Rockstar Games. The report did not give a reason for the removal.
