Lady Louise Windsor took the reins in Windsor Great Park on Saturday, 3 October, for the Final Meet of the Carriage Driving Season, as reported by HELLO!.

Carriage driving, the sport in which a driver guides a horse-drawn carriage around a set course, has long been her chosen discipline. She arrived ready to compete in the season closer on home ground.

Cameras caught her between runs giving her horse close attention. She stroked its face and tended to its nose with clear care.

The resemblance was hard to miss. The photographs were described as strikingly similar to archive images of her late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II affectionately petting horses, including one portrait from 1953.

Lady Louise is 22 and a St Andrews graduate. She is the eldest child of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

Her interest in the sport comes from her late grandfather Prince Philip. He took her for her first carriage ride when she was a young girl, and she has continued to drive competitively since.

The late Queen also tried her hand at driving. She occasionally took part alongside Princess Margaret and drove solo in Queen Alexandra's carriage in the grounds of Windsor Castle in 1944.

What makes this stand out is the family thread. Three generations have now taken up the reins in Windsor. For fans, it was a quiet echo rather than a performance.
