Leicester Tigers claimed their first win of the season, beating Newcastle Red Bulls 24-19 at Kingston Park on 3 October.

The Gallagher PREM fixture was Newcastle's first home game of the campaign. Leicester led 17-5 at half-time and then held on BBC Sport.

Leicester scored three tries, through Samiuela Moli, Adam Radwan and Will Hurd. A try, grounding the ball over the opposition line, is worth five points. Billy Searle added the extras, with three conversions, struck kicks worth two points each, plus one penalty, a kick at goal worth three.

Newcastle started fast. Obi Ene touched down three minutes into his Prem debut to give the home crowd an early lift.

George McGuigan and Cameron Jordan added Newcastle's other two tries. Brett Connon and Zack Henry kicked one conversion each, which left the Red Bulls five points short at the final whistle. Christophe Ridley refereed the match.

Radwan's score carried extra edge. The winger left Newcastle for Leicester and returned to score against his old club at Kingston Park.

The result ended a difficult run for Leicester. It was their first victory in seven matches in all competitions BBC Sport.

For fans, this means relief on one side and frustration on the other. Leicester finally have a win to build on. Newcastle pushed hard in front of their own supporters but could not turn pressure into points when it mattered.
