Glenn Irwin taken to hospital with suspected spinal fracture after Donington crash

Glenn Irwin was taken to hospital with a feared spinal fracture after a crash at Donington Park on 4 October.
The Ducati rider went down at Starkey's Bridge on the penultimate lap of the third British Superbike Championship race of the weekend, Britain's top domestic motorcycle series. He stayed conscious throughout. BBC
Medical staff assessed and treated Irwin at the circuit medical centre. He was then transferred to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham for further assessment and imaging.
On the track, Kyle Ryde won the opening two races of the weekend at Donington. Scott Redding won the third race, the one in which Irwin crashed.
It is the second time this season Irwin has needed hospital treatment after a crash. In July he suffered pelvic and neck injuries in a first-lap, four-rider incident in the opening race at Snetterton, at Turn Two, known as Wilson. He missed the two remaining races that weekend.
Initial scans after that Snetterton crash excluded hip, pelvis and major neck fractures, with officials saying a further scan would follow to clarify the neck injury. British Superbike
The championship now heads to its final round. The decider is scheduled at Brands Hatch on 17-18 October. No update has been given on Irwin's participation.
