NBA 2K25 to leave digital stores on 30 October as servers set to close
NBA 2K25 will be removed from all digital stores on 30 October 2026, just over two years after its release in September 2024. The servers follow two months later.
Online features and services are scheduled to run until 31 December 2026, according to 2K's Online Services Status page. That page lists 6 September 2024 alongside NBA 2K25. From 1 January 2027, players will no longer be able to play multiplayer games or open any online game modes, as reported by Video Games Chronicle.
Delisted, in store terms, means withdrawn from sale. It does not erase the game from the libraries of people who have already bought it. Those owners can still redownload NBA 2K25 after 30 October 2026 and keep playing the parts that do not need a server connection. New buyers will have no digital route after that date.
The shutdown changes what those playable parts are. Players will no longer be able to earn Virtual Currency, known as VC, after 31 December 2026. VC is the in-game currency spent on player upgrades, cards and other items across the connected modes. It is earned through play and tied to progression in several parts of the game.
That link knocks out two favourites. MyTeam, the squad-building mode where players collect cards and build sides, and MyCareer will both stop working from 1 January 2027 because they rely on VC. MyCareer is the single-player story mode, where you create a player and play through a career on and off the court. Its progression is tied to the same currency, so it closes with the online services despite being played solo.
Three modes remain playable after that point. Play Now offers quick games with standard teams. MyNBA lets you run a league season in a manager role, handling fixtures and squads. The W focuses on women's basketball. All three will work without 2K servers, but linked extras will be gone. That includes multiplayer, Online Leagues and community sharing of rosters and designs.
For fans, this means two deadlines to keep in mind. 30 October 2026 is the last date to buy the game digitally. 31 December 2026 is the last date to use its connected features and to earn VC. Any VC tied to MyTeam or MyCareer cannot support those modes once the servers close, leaving only the offline modes for existing owners to return to.
