Danny Boyle to receive Maverick Director Award at Savannah festival

Danny Boyle will receive the Maverick Director Award at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival, The Hollywood Reporter reported on Oct. 5.
The presentation is set for 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Lucas Theatre in Savannah. It will take place right before a gala screening of Boyle’s film Ink. The slot is precise. The afternoon belongs to him.
The screening will be followed by an hourlong career-retrospective conversation with Boyle, to be recorded for The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast. The festival’s schedule page also lists a Q&A with Boyle immediately after the Ink screening.
Ink centres on the relationship between Rupert Murdoch, played by Guy Pearce, and Larry Lamb, played by Jack O’Connell. Boyle is a British film director and producer, whose most recent directing credits are listed by the festival as Ink and 28 Years Later.
The wider festival runs Oct. 24 to 31, according to SCAD. It is the 29th edition of the event. Passes are now on sale, and tickets went on sale at noon on Friday, Oct. 2.
Boyle is part of a busy honourees list. Jessica Lange will also be honoured at this year’s festival, the festival announced on Facebook. Jordan Firstman will receive the Rising Star Director Award for Club Kid, WTOC reported on Oct. 2.
For fans, this means one afternoon covers both sides of the job. A new film on the big screen, then the director talking through how it was made and what came before.
