Madrid's Iberseries & Platino Industria broke its attendance record and closed with fresh projects from Woody Allen, Los Javis and Movistar Plus.

The sixth edition ran Sept. 29-Oct. 2 at Madrid's Matadero. Attendance rose 20% to 3,400 delegates including day passes, according to Variety. The market is organised by EGEDA and Foundation Secuoya, in collaboration with Fipca and sponsorship from Madrid Film Office and Film Madrid Region.

The busiest buzz surrounded the provisionally entitled Woody Allen Fall Project. It starts shooting Oct. 5 in Madrid. Allen wrote and directed the film, his third production filmed in Spain, as reported by Deadline.

The cast is Marton Csokas, Jemima Kirke, Jakob Oftebro, Peter Vives and Alexi Wasser. WestEnd Films is handling world sales, meaning it sells the film territory by territory.

At an Oct. 1 press conference, Allen described the film as a "comedy with romance, intrigue and infidelity." He said Madrid was perfect for the "diplomatic atmosphere" he wanted.

HBO Max used the market to unveil development on a new crime series. Development means scripts are being worked up before any order to series. The show will be executive produced by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, known as Los Javis, at Suma Content.

It is created by Fran Araújo and Eduard Sola. Araújo co-penned the International Emmy-nominated "The Anatomy of the Moment." Sola co-wrote "Querer." The story centres on the Tor mountain community, according to Deadline.

Los Javis were also behind another market deal. Mubi acquired global rights to their drama series "La Mesías," sold by Movistar Plus International. Global rights means Mubi can release it worldwide.

"La Mesías" runs to seven episodes. It follows a family torn apart by the matriarch's religious fanaticism.

Another Spanish title drew attention. "Killing a Bear," a Movistar Plus-Arte series, is a six-episode murder mystery inspired by real events. The victim is Cachou, a giant Pyrenean brown bear.

The story begins with the mysterious death of Cachou in the Aran Valley during COVID-19. Details were presented in market materials released during Iberseries.

What makes this stand out is the mix. For viewers, this means more Spanish-language projects lining up international routes, from cinema to streaming series.
