Philip Tinari to lead Tai Kwun Arts in Hong Kong

Philip Tinari is now Director of Tai Kwun Arts in Hong Kong.
Tai Kwun announced the role on 5 October 2026 as part of expanded leadership posts for Tinari and Chin Chin Teoh. The change was reported by ARTnews and set out in a Tai Kwun statement.
As director, Tinari is responsible for artistic direction and artistic and programme governance. In plain terms, that means he leads decisions on what the organisation makes and shows, and how those programmes are managed. The job sits inside Tai Kwun Culture & Arts Company Limited, the parent organisation that operates under the name Tai Kwun Arts.
The promotion builds on an appointment made earlier this year. Tai Kwun first named Tinari as Deputy Director and Head of Art on 12 January 2026, according to its January announcement. He took up that post on 23 February 2026, as reported by Tatler Asia.
That earlier brief covered two main areas. Tinari was to oversee programming at Tai Kwun Contemporary, the site's contemporary art venue, and to help shape strategy for the wider Tai Kwun complex, according to The Art Newspaper. The October announcement moves him from deputy to director. Short version: same patch, more authority.
The October update also set out the team around him. Chin Chin Teoh serves as Managing Director of Tai Kwun. Timothy Calnin was appointed Director of Tai Kwun Arts (Special Projects). Both titles appear in the organisation's current management listing.
For visitors, this means one person now holds the pen on the art. If you walk into a show, a performance or a public programme under the Tai Kwun Arts banner, Tinari carries responsibility for its direction and oversight. Teoh leads management, and Calnin leads special projects.
It is a clear handover on paper. The paperwork tells the story here: January brought the deputy title, February brought the start date, and October brought the director title.
