US$5 million is heading to the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago in Chicago.

The Bluhm Family gave the money to create a fund dedicated to gender equity, according to the announcement reported on 5 October 2026. ARTnews

That is a large gift for a contemporary art museum. It is earmarked, meaning the museum cannot spend it as general operating cash but must use it for its stated purpose.

The museum, known as MCA Chicago, was founded in 1967. It first staged exhibitions and programmes, then expanded in 1974 to collect and preserve contemporary art as well. MCA Chicago

Today its collection holds more than 3,700 works. The museum is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organisation accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.

It is also built for young visitors. Anyone aged 18 and under gets in free through the Lefkofsky Free 18 & Under Fund. The museum is a member of Museums in the Park and receives major support from the Chicago Park District.

The gift lands during a leadership change. Madeleine Grynsztejn, the museum’s Pritzker Director, has led MCA Chicago since 2008. She is stepping down after nearly two decades, a departure reported in March 2026. Chicago Tribune Artforum

Her tenure included a major donation of works from Greek collector Dimitris Daskalopoulos. That gift broadened the museum’s international holdings.

For visitors, this means more to watch. A dedicated fund gives curators room to plan shows, acquire work and pay the people behind them.
