The Gymnasts of Fishermen Colony to open in cinemas on 23 October

Cargo Film & Releasing will open The Gymnasts of Fishermen Colony in cinemas on 23 October, starting at DCTV's Firehouse Cinema in New York City, as reported by Deadline. A trailer has been released.
The film is a documentary directed by Habiba Nosheen about girls in Pakistan pursuing competitive gymnastics. It follows three teenagers, Kiran, Anwara and Sonia, as they train toward Pakistan's national championships. The trailer is out now.
The story is set in a fishing community in Karachi described by Cargo Film & Releasing as marginalised and "stateless". There, the young gymnasts find joy, confidence and possibility through the sport. The filmmakers describe it as an intimate coming-of-age documentary about girlhood, joy and play, according to the film's official site.
Nosheen directed the film and produced it with Amar Lohana. Nosheen is a three-time Emmy and Peabody Award winner. Executive producers, who lend high-level backing to a production, include actor Mariska Hargitay, producer Trish Adlesic and activist Malala Yousafzai. The film is an Akelo Media production made with the participation of the Canada Media Fund and Telefilm Canada, in association with CBC, Chicken and Egg Films and Mighty Entertainment.
After New York, the release will widen. The plan calls for more than 20 cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Houston, Cleveland, Santa Fe and Toronto. In Canada, Blue Ice Docs will open the film in Toronto. Cargo Film & Releasing specialises in theatrical documentary releases, meaning cinema releases, in the United States, Britain and Canada.
What makes this stand out is the rollout. For audiences, this means a chance to see the documentary on the big screen first, city by city, from late October.
