Israeli forces killed at least one Palestinian and injured several others across the occupied West Bank on October 5, 2026.

The fatal shooting occurred near Bani Naim, outside Hebron. Palestinian officials said troops opened fire on a vehicle carrying three Palestinians, killing one man and seriously injuring the other two. The Palestinian General Authority of Civil Affairs, the Palestinian office that handles civilian matters with Israel, identified the dead man as 38-year-old Hossam Alaa al-Din Abdul Jabbar Walad Ali. It said Israeli forces withheld his body, and the body was not released. Al Jazeera

The Israeli army gave a different account of the same incident. It said the three were driving suspiciously and attempted a car-ramming attack against soldiers. In that version, the Palestinian vehicle accelerated toward an Israeli military vehicle and struck it before soldiers opened fire. The military described the three as suspects in the Bani Naim area. A second army shooting was reported in Ramun, near Ramallah. The Israeli military said it sent troops after a report that a vehicle had been set on fire and two suspects were in the area, including one carrying a knife. Palestinian authorities said Ahmad Mazen Kahla was critically injured by Israeli gunfire in the Ramun area.

A third incident involved settlers. The Palestinian Red Crescent, an emergency medical service, said its crews treated three people injured in an Israeli settler attack in the Imriha area southwest of Jenin and transferred them to hospital.

Casualty counts varied as reports moved during the day. An Agence France-Presse dispatch from Ramallah, Palestinian Territories, on October 5 reported that Israeli forces killed one Palestinian and injured two others in the occupied West Bank. Palestinian officials and medical sources cited separately reported one Palestinian killed and five others injured on October 5 in Israeli army and settler attacks in Hebron and Jenin provinces. Middle East Monitor A Middle East Eye live-blog update from the previous day had put the toll at one killed and more than 15 wounded in attacks by forces and settlers across the territory on Sunday.

The same day also brought a demolition and incursions. Israeli occupation forces demolished the home of Mohammed Al-Amour in Al-Deirat, Hebron, on October 5, 2026. On the night of October 5, forces raided the town of Kafr ad-Dik west of Salfit and the center of Tulkarm city.

Palestinian tracking figures place the day in a longer count. The Palestinian Colonisation and Wall Resistance Commission, which monitors Israeli actions in the territory, said 66 Palestinians have been killed in at least 14,742 attacks in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since October 2023. The commission said those attacks damaged or destroyed 147,111 trees, including 100,485 olive trees. Al Jazeera

The broader context here is that several different tools of pressure were used in one 24-hour span. Think of it like several different rulebooks being used on the same street on the same day. Lethal force, a search tied to arson and knife possession, settler assaults needing hospital transfer, a demolition, and night raids into towns each follow different rules and chains of command. What to watch is whether accounts of the Bani Naim car contact can be checked, how the two seriously wounded men and Kahla recover, what happens to Walad Ali's body, and whether the Imriha injuries lead to arrests or compensation claims.
