More than 70 people are leaving Supermassive Games after a redundancy process announced in August.

The cuts were reported in the week of 6 October 2026. They follow a consultation process that the studio said could affect up to 75 roles. The company said the process was necessary to ensure its sustainability. Eurogamer

News of the departures came from former IT and facilities director Frank Tindle. In a post on LinkedIn announcing his own exit, he said more than 70 people were leaving across developers, artists, producers, quality assurance, operations and other teams.

The consultation — a formal process employers in the United Kingdom use before making redundancies — began in August 2026. Supermassive said at the time it expected to lose up to 75 colleagues.

That August announcement was the studio’s third round of layoffs in three years. GamesIndustry.biz

In July 2025, the company announced layoffs of up to 36 employees. It said the change would allow it to adapt its team structure to better align with recent industry changes. Earlier, in February 2024, it planned to cut about 90 roles after notifying 150 staff that they were at risk.

The July 2025 cuts were linked to a delay for Directive 8020, the studio’s horror game. The game was pushed to the first half of 2026. It then released in May.

Supermassive developed Directive 8020 and the original Until Dawn. The studio describes itself as a BAFTA-winning maker of storytelling titles. It says it is best known for The Dark Pictures Anthology and The Quarry, and lists Little Nightmares III as its latest release.
