Jason Sudeikis has swapped the tactics board for the interviewer's chair, sitting down one-on-one with New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart. The conversation was published on 6 October 2026 as the third edition of The Hollywood Reporter's Game Recognize Game series, The Hollywood Reporter.

Sudeikis is a four-time Emmy winner, the American awards for excellence in television. His route there ran through sport. He played college basketball in Kansas before turning to comedy and joining the cast of Saturday Night Live, the long-running US sketch show. Comedy came later, and then came Ted Lasso.

That sporting background followed him to London. While shooting Ted Lasso there, Sudeikis became a supporter of Arsenal, the English Premier League club. The fourth season of Ted Lasso, the comedy in which he plays an American coach working in English football, features Ted coaching a women's soccer team.

Stewart stars at forward for the New York Liberty. Her alma mater is UConn, the University of Connecticut, where she won four NCAA titles, the national college championships. Since then she has won one WNBA title, four World Cup championships and three Olympic gold medals. That is four college crowns, one professional crown, four world crowns and three Olympic golds.

She has also built beyond the WNBA calendar. In 2023 Stewart co-founded Unrivaled with Napheesa Collier, her former UConn teammate. Unrivaled is a 3-on-3 league that plays in the WNBA off-season, giving players a home-season option in the United States.

Sudeikis has seen Stewart's work up close. He is a fixture of CeLIBrity Row, the courtside stretch at Liberty home games filled with well-known superfans. The names there include filmmaker Spike Lee, singer Alicia Keys and the cast of Severance, the Apple TV+ workplace thriller.

What makes this stand out is the shared ground. One built a career playing a coach who had to learn a new game. The other keeps winning at her own game while building a new league for others. Short questions. Long careers behind them.

For fans, this means time to hear detail. No buzzer. No cut to commercial. Just two people who know what a locker room feels like.
