The Primetime Emmy Awards will stream on Prime Video from 2027 under a six-year deal confirmed by the Television Academy on 6 October 2026.

The Academy and Prime Video said the deal covers exclusive global streaming of the Emmys, television’s annual awards for primetime programmes Television Academy. The show will be free to watch worldwide. It will not sit behind a paywall, according to Billboard.

Nothing changes for this year’s ceremony. The 78th Emmy Awards will air on Monday, 14 September 2026, beginning at 8 p.m. ET, live on NBC and streaming live and on demand on Peacock. Mariska Hargitay is set to host, with Jesse Collins Entertainment producing.

The Prime Video deal ends a long broadcast rotation. From 1995, the Emmys cycled among ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC. Before that, from 1966 to 1986, it rotated among CBS, ABC and NBC. The last rotation deal, struck in 2018, was reportedly worth $8 million per year.

Talks about a change had circulated for weeks. Variety reported in September that the Emmys were in discussions with Amazon Prime Video under a new licensing arrangement as the broadcast wheel deal ended. Gold Derby was first to report that the move had been agreed.

The Emmys are the second of the EGOT awards — the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony, the four top US entertainment honours — to announce a shift to a streamer. The Academy Awards said in December that they will move from ABC to YouTube in 2029. ABC has aired the Oscars since 1976.

The venue is staying put. The 2027 Primetime Emmys will return to the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

For viewers, this means a familiar show in a new place. A US network broadcast that required a TV aerial or cable login becomes a free global stream from 2027.
