Thirty-six artists and collectives from 34 countries will fill the New Museum in New York for its 2027 Triennial.

The museum announced the line-up on 6 October 2026, setting up the sixth edition of its three-yearly survey of early-career art from around the world. The show is titled The Outside Expands and will run from 4 February to 16 May 2027, according to ArtReview.

It will be organised by curators Vivian Crockett and Isabella Rjeille, Artnet reported. A triennial, a large exhibition staged every three years, is the New Museum's signature format for new work.

Names on the list include Virginia Chihota, Jota Mombaça, Agnes Questionmark and Jesús Hilario-Reyes, ARTnews reported. Others include Jean Barth, Luz Broto, Omyo Cho, Paloma Contreras Lomas and Biraaj Dodiya. Jade Guanaro Kuriki-Olivo, Tuan Andrew Nguyen and Wynnie Mynerva are also listed by the museum.

Mark the calendar. The 2027 show will be the first Triennial held in the museum's newly expanded building, Hyperallergic reported. The museum on the Bowery in Lower Manhattan has been closed while work continues on its OMA-designed expansion.

The New Museum describes the Triennial as the only recurring exhibition in the United States devoted to international emerging artists. Past editions have often given artists their first major museum exposure in New York.

What makes this stand out for visitors is the combination of new names and new space. Thirty-six participants is a compact list for a global survey, and the expanded galleries give the museum more room to show large-scale work and group projects.
