Kore-eda says Eddie Redmayne film is still at script stage

Hirokazu Kore-eda is still writing the script for his planned film with Eddie Redmayne.
He gave the update on Wednesday at a press conference at the Busan International Film Festival for his manga adaptation 'Look Back', reported Variety. “Right now, I am writing the script,” Kore-eda said.
No title yet. No story details either. Kore-eda said he could not share specific plot details at this stage, but added that preparations for the Searchlight Pictures project were progressing smoothly.
A formal reveal is still some way off. Kore-eda said he expects to go public with more information next year at the earliest. He added that he hopes to bring the finished film to Busan as well.
The Redmayne project was first reported in February, when Deadline said the actor would star in an untitled drama directed by Kore-eda for Searchlight Pictures. Kore-eda previously directed 'Shoplifters'. The Busan comments are the latest word on where that collaboration stands.
In film terms, that puts the project in its earliest creative phase. The screenplay comes before sets are built and cameras roll. Smooth preparations suggest the groundwork is moving, even if there is little to show yet.
Wednesday’s session was centred on 'Look Back'. Kore-eda was joined by cast members Deguchi Natsuki, Makita Aju, Mori Nana and Ishikawa Ruka.
He told reporters he had not followed the original manga in its serial run. He found it later in a bookshop.
He also described how he wanted 'Look Back' captured. He pushed to shoot on 35mm film, the traditional celluloid format, across all four seasons. That approach spread the shoot through the year to record each season on screen.
For anyone waiting for the Redmayne film, the message is simple. Wait a little longer. The script is not yet finalised, and Kore-eda is keeping the story close until he is ready to present it.
